Like many other cities, Bourges must upgrade its sports facilities due to climate change.

Various investments are moving towards adaptation. The replacement of the cover of the exterior pool of the Raymond-Boisdé nautical center, in a quest for less energy loss. The deployment of LED lighting, “slowly but surely” according to Renaud Mise, sports deputy for the city of Bourges, is also continuing in the twenty Berruyers gymnasiums, at a cost of 30,000 euros.

Gymnasiums particularly targeted by adaptations to comply with the Elan Law and its article 175 which impose “a reduction in final energy consumption […] at least 40% in 2030, 50% in 2040 and 60% in 2050, compared to 2010. Heating management is complicated. “The minimum authorized is 14°C, we stick to this standard,” said the elected official. There are specificities like the dojo where the outfit is more demanding, or high-level spaces, where to avoid breakdown, the temperature is raised.

State aid in question

Associated problem, the insulation of establishments which sometimes date from the 1960s or 1970s and may be non-existent. “It’s a big project that we’re going to have to look at, but with what state aid? It’s good to make laws but it falls on local communities.”

With the last summers of drought, stadiums have suffered restrictions on lawn watering, except for grounds which host national competitions. In Bourges, Jacques-Rimbault and potentially Alfred-Depège because now the Bourges XV now plays Jean-Brivot. A stadium where a water recovery “pocket” has been set up.
