Lithium batteries, omnipresent in our daily lives, represent a danger that is often underestimated. To raise public awareness, the Yvelines firefighters have launched a warning campaign, visible on their new vehicles.
In Yvelines, firefighters are mobilizing to raise awareness of the dangers of lithium batteries. In partnership with the FDNY-SP78 association, the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS) of the department deployed an awareness campaign, reports 78 Actu.
Three new fire brigade vans now display explicit visuals to warn of fires linked to these batteries. We can see an electric scooter and the words “Never recharge it near the only exit door from your home!” »
Also be careful with electronic cigarettes
“A battery that overheats and ignites becomes uncontrollable,” explains a lieutenant-colonel to 78 Actu. It starts with smoke propelled under pressure, then flames or even an explosion. All in seconds. » This phenomenon can happen with wear or poor quality materials.
These risks also concern electronic cigarettes or computers left charging on a bed. To avoid an accident, firefighters recommend recharging in open areas, under supervision, and unplugging as soon as charging is complete. In 2023, two buildings were set on fire due to lithium batteries igniting, causing several injuries.
