2nd Rhône constituency: Make your choice

The Lyon Bondy Blog offers you a portrait of the second constituency of the Rhône. Nestled between four arrondissements (1st, 4th and part of the 2nd and 9th arrondissements of Lyon). Through a short interview, the candidates from this constituency introduce themselves and reveal their program.

On June 9, 2024, following the announcement of the dissolution pronounced by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, new legislative elections are looming with a first round which will take place on June 30.

The outgoing MP Hubert-Julien Laferrière (GE) will not run again. Embroiled in a corruption case, he wishes to give a new direction to his career, in particular by taking care of the animal cause.

On the left, competition was tough.

At the announcement of the dissolution of the National Assembly and the resignation of the outgoing deputy, several candidates for candidacy: Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert, who had been dismissed from her position as deputy for culture by the mayor of Lyon for a month previously ; Jean-Christophe Vincent, president of the Duché football club who demanded a certain legitimacy; Sandrine Runel, who had also positioned herself before being sent to the 4th constituency. On the environmentalist side, two candidates: Yasmine Bouagga and Gauthier Chapuis. It is ultimately Boris Tavernier who wins the battle, a so-called “peaceful” solution found by Bruno Bernard (President of the Métropole du Rhône) and Cédric Van Styvandael (Town Hall of Villeurbanne) and it is the mayor of the 1st who will be his substitute like in 2022.

The right and the Macronists are on the lookout.

The right has not won this constituency since 1997 with Emmanuel Hamelin. A circus rather anchored on the left since 2002 with the victory of Pierre-Alain Millet. The right can no longer do it. In 2022, for the Republicans, it was Myriam Fogel-Jedidi and in 2024, Maryll Guilloteau will be a candidate. On the “Together for the Republic” side, it is Loic Terrenes who will be a candidate as in 2022. A constituency that these two parties would like to steal from the New Popular Front, knowing that a defeat would be experienced as a terrible earthquake for the environmentalist majority which leads the city of Lyon as well as the Métropole du Rhône. Response in the ballot boxes on June 30 and July 7, 2024.

Clarification: we interviewed Loic Terrenes last week (publication this Wednesday on our site) as part of the presentation of the program of each party for the 2024 legislative elections. He is the only candidate for the legislative elections of the “Together for the Republic” party. » for responding favorably to our request.
