From November 18 to 24, 2024, Industry Week aims to introduce several companies and their activities to the general public, and in particular to schools, in the hope, perhaps, of sparking vocations.

In Reunion, the industry is largely based on the food industry and the production of construction materials. Today it creates 6.2% of the island's wealth, and represents 5.8% of local businesses, employing 7.1% of employees, or more than 21,000 people, according to figures from the Reunion prefecture. .

To discover Reunion's industrial activities, more than 150 events are organized throughout the week, intended to be “gateways” between young people, whether students or job seekers, and the world of industry. Behind-the-scenes visits to companies, practical workshops to discover sectors, exchanges with professionals.. .

This Monday morning, in Saint-Paul, around thirty participants were able to discover the activity of the company Fibers Industries Bois, specializing in the transformation of wood into parquet floors, terraces, fences, etc.

It's super interesting to see how things are going in the company, knowing that Parcoursup is going to arrive and that we're going to have to make all our choices for the future.”is satisfied Malia, a high school student in 1st grade.

Effectively, “there are opportunities in the industry. On the scale of Fibers, there is the industrial side of course, but it can also make them want to evolve, why not in the world of crafts, which lacks qualified labor“, points out Louis Verlhac, marketing and communications manager at Fibers Industries Bois.

Tom, in the same class, is more interested in the opportunity to “discover the world of work by going beyond theory and what we learn in economic and social sciences classes at high school“.

I take my students to see industrial sites like Fibers Industries Bois today, or tomorrow, Empreinte locale in Sainte-Marie. This is an opportunity for me to link what we learn in class about markets, production costs, suppliers, competition, with the reality on the ground.“, explains Isabelle Mahamabaly, their economic and social sciences teacher at the Levavasseur high school in Saint-Denis.
