On July 6, 2025, the Paris Museum of Decorative Arts (MAD) will inaugurate a unique event: an annual ball, orchestrated by Sofia Coppola.
The ball, which promises to be grandiose, is part of a celebration of French culture, mixing Art, fashion and design. This evening will also mark the centenary of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts of 1925, a landmark event in the history of Art Deco.
A French ball at MAD
The nave and the Lefuel Hall of the MAD, capable of accommodating up to 900 guests, will serve as a setting for this evening. These spaces, located in the heart of the museum, will reinforce the elegance and splendor of the event. Sofia Coppola, known for her aesthetic sense and her refined universe, was chosen to direct the artistic part. “This city, which I consider my second home, touches me deeply”confided the director of Marie Antoinette.
For the president of the gala honorary committee, Jean-Victor Meyers, this choice is a natural one: “Sofia Coppola knows how to create global universes, at the crossroads of fashion, art and design.” This vision fits perfectly with the goal of the ball, which promises to be an immersive and unique experience.
Celebrating the heritage of Art Deco
This first ball will also be an opportunity to pay homage to the Art Deco style, crowned during the International Exhibition of 1925. This historic event, held in Paris, not only marked the history of art but also contributed to the influence French cultural. With its emblematic pavilions, including that of Corbusier, this exhibition laid the foundations of modernism and influenced the fine arts for decades.
The MAD, located rue de Rivoli, shares this rich heritage as guardian of the treasures of this era. The ball will therefore be a natural extension of the museum's mission: to promote the art of living and French artistic heritage.
A dive into the Roaring Twenties
At the same time, MAD is organizing the exhibition Fashion in modelswhich explores the creativity of the Roaring Twenties, from 1917 to 1939. This retrospective highlights emblematic figures such as Jeanne Lanvin, Elsa Schiaparelli and Madeleine Vionnet, through photographs, drawings and haute couture dresses. Scheduled from November 6, 2024 to January 8, 2025, this exhibition is an ideal introduction to the ball.
The MAD ball is not intended to be a simple social event, but an annual celebration, where elegance meets tradition. With Sofia Coppola at the helm, this evening could well become a highlight of the Parisian cultural calendar. Who knows, maybe it will eventually dethrone the MET Gala evening? At least we hope so.
