The measure removing VAT and dock dues on 7,000 essential products in the Antilles to fight against life could be adopted in the finance law. For the president of the association of mayors of Guadeloupe, Jocelyn Sapotille, this is far from being the solution. It is the margins that must be tackled.
Representatives of Rpprac, the Martinican association, went to France to participate in a mobilization in Paris.
The “Rally for the Protection of Afro-Caribbean Peoples and Resources” refuses the protocol signed by the local authority of Martinique, the State, and supermarkets. A standoff that continues.
Serge Letchimy, the president of the executive council of the community of Martinique met with members of the government, the deputies adopted two amendments. The first, that of the government, for the exemption of VAT rates on food products, the second, of the socialist deputies who voted for the abolition of VAT in Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion.
But for the president of mayors, Jocelyn Sapotille, we must not be mistaken in the fight, it is the margins that we must attack.
Food is no more taxed in Guadeloupe than food is taxed in Paris. And yet, food is more expensive. But we're fooling everyone into believing that it's because of taxes. This is not true. This is of course because of the margins which are exorbitant, because of a lack of competition, transport costs, because of the rear margins which are not reallocated to consumers. I say to Guadeloupean consumers, take back your power, please!
