For nearly 12 hours this weekend, a large gendarmerie force was deployed in the town of Saint-Lieux-Les-Lavaur (81). The objective is to secure a district of the town where an armed man is holed up in his home. Aged around fifty, the man finally went to the Gaillac gendarmerie on the morning of June 24.

The man who had taken refuge in his home in Saint-Lieux-les-Lavaur finally surrendered to the gendarmerie this Monday, June 24. His attitude caused great concern in the town this weekend.

His former partner had contacted the firefighters following exchanges of messages that she found worrying. Arriving on site, the firefighters were poorly received and even felt threatened. They notice that the man is armed with a hunting rifle. The police were immediately alerted and the area cordoned off.

An unusual event for this town of 1,200 inhabitants. “I was contacted around midnight on the night of Saturday to Sunday. The gendarmes asked me to go there. They took over the town hall to make it their headquarters. We made our premises available to them. was a bit of a rush.”, says Gilles Cormignon, the mayor of Saint-Lieux-Les-Lavaur. He estimates that around ten gendarmerie vehicles were present on site.

According to our information, the police then fear a suicide attempt and risks for the neighborhood. The man remains holed up at home and armed but in order to calm the situation and ease the tension, the gendarmes decide to lift the device on the morning of June 23.

“We know this person who has never really posed a problem. He is a bit isolated, not very sociable. He lives alone and doesn’t really come into contact”specifies the mayor.

Telephone contact is maintained. The man, aged around fifty, finally agreed to go to the Gaillac gendarmerie this Monday morning.

It is not known at this time whether any charges will be brought against him.

“It was a restless night but ultimately it all ended well. I was informed by the gendarmerie that he had been arrested without resistance. Calm returned to the town”tells us the reassured mayor.

It is not known at this time whether any charges will be brought against him.
