For a little over an hour, around thirty farmers participated in a filter dam on the Mont-de-Marsan ring road, in front of a car dealership located in the town of Saint-Pierre-du-Mont. According to Mélanie Martin, president of Modef des Landes, the Peasant Movement explains having “chosen to carry out a symbolic action in front of a dealership to denounce the weight of the European automobile lobby which has won and sacrificed French agriculture with the EU-Mercosur agreement” .
“A better income”
The choice of a filter dam was favored “to show that mobilization is possible in good humor while speaking to the population”. Émilie Deligny, spokesperson for the Confédération paysanne des Landes, continues: “We say no to Mercorsur because it is the free trade agreements which destabilize French agricultural production. What we want is an income that allows us to live with dignity from our profession.”
Mélanie Martin also took advantage of this gathering to discuss her vision of the agricultural model of tomorrow, “an agriculture focused on the future with the defense of a sustainable social and environmental model”.
Senator from Landes, Monique Lubin (PS) went to the scene of this agricultural mobilization. Also speaking on behalf of her parliamentary colleagues (Editor's note: Éric Kerrouche, Boris Vallaud and Éric Sargiacomo), she reiterated her position: “We are extremely unfavorable to this treaty, because we know, especially at the level of the Landes, how much it will be expensive for our farmers and our entire agri-food system, including cattle and poultry. »
