Line 14 of the Paris metro was extended by eight stations this Monday and now serves Orly airport. These new sections should change the lives of several million users and make this new “supermetro” “the busiest line in our traffic”, assures the boss of the RATP, Jean Castex.

Getting to Orly airport from the center of Paris no longer feels like an obstacle course. Line 14 of the Paris metro was extended by seven stations towards the south this Monday and now serves the second Paris airport. Its route also includes a new station in Saint-Denis, north of the capital. This is where Emmanuel Macron went this Monday morning to inaugurate this new version of line 14, the first “supermetro” in the region.

These new sections should change the lives of several million users. Notably that of Leïla, a regular user of the metro, but who chose to take her car to go to work, tired of the saturation of line 13 which also serves Saint-Denis. She plans to test this new line. “We hope that line 14 will be more accessible, that there will be fewer people on it, and that it will be more pleasant to access the center of Paris. We are waiting, but it’s a good thing.”

“When it rains, I’ll be in the metro”

Dominique, 64, is relieved. No more daily walking to the office. “Now I’ll have twelve minutes on the metro, that’s great. It’ll make you less tired. When it rains, I’ll be in the metro, very comfortable, with power outlets. It will still be better.”

These eight years of work should make this line one of the main arteries in Île-de-France. “It will eventually become, we will say by the end of 2025, with 1 million passengers, the busiest line in our traffic,” assures Jean Castex, president of RATP. From the surroundings of the Stade de France to Orly airport, this revolution comes at the right time, one month before the Olympics.
