By Cheikh CAMARA – The Democratic Forces of Senegal (Fds-Les Guelwaars) party of Dr Babacar Diop, mayor of Thiès, has decided to dissolve all its bodies. A verdict which was taken during the party’s national seminar organized on June 22 and 23, 2024 in Thiès. The meeting allowed the national and departmental leaders of this party to evaluate their participation in the Presidential election in March 2024 and to define new strategies for the future of the party. An opportunity for the president of Fds-Les Guelwaars to salute the determination of the Senegalese people who stood up against the regime of Macky Sall. “In the wake of the tumultuous presidential election of March 2024, we fervently celebrate the commitment and sacrifices made by the Senegalese people to preserve our democratic institutions. These heroic efforts made it possible to overcome one of the most serious crises of confidence in our history, which almost shook the foundations of our Nation. We express our sincere congratulations to President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye for his resounding victory, without however welcoming the first presidential directives upon his election,” he confides.
Dr Babacar Diop notes that “since President Diomaye Faye came to power, he has established the principles of “Jub, Jubal, Jubanti” as the foundations of his governance. These principles, focused on humanity, social justice and the preservation of public funds, are reflected in his first actions as President. According to him, “this promising new era requires a healthy break that we support, thus reaffirming our anchoring within the ruling coalition. There is hope for a better future. We encourage the President and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to pursue, with determination, the reforms necessary to strengthen democracy, Justice, the rule of law and fundamental freedoms. A crucial element of these reforms is the establishment of truly inclusive elections, which are the very bedrock of a robust democracy.
The dissolution of all current bodies of the party was the major decision taken during this national seminar of Fds-Les Guelwaars, in accordance with the statutes and recommendations of its last congress. Its managers note that “this decision marks a decisive turning point in the history of Fds-Les Guelwaars. It symbolizes our desire for renewal and adaptation in the face of contemporary challenges and issues. Thus, the party gave a mandate to its president, Babacar Diop, to put in place, within a short period of time, new structures aligned with the renewed ambitions of our party. Which will be designed to be more dynamic, inclusive and responsive, capable of responding effectively to the aspirations of our members and supporters.
