This Monday morning, the Rhône deputies will meet at 10 a.m. in front of the Confluences museum in Lyon.
Summoned by angry farmers, parliamentarians will have to hear their grievances. But also to be the recipients of an unusual prize.
Indeed, this weekend, members of the FDSEA and Young Farmers intend to travel across the department to cover the town entrance signs that they had returned at the start of the year.
Each time, a panel will be torn down, in order to constitute loot which will be placed at the feet of the deputies on Monday. And this, to symbolically make them understand that without signposts, their profession is lost. And that despite their very strong mobilization 10 months ago, they “always walk on their heads”.
Following this meeting, Rhone farmers will light fires of anger in the department in the evening, particularly on roundabouts in Mornant or Saint-Romain-de-Popey.
A less impactful movement than last January?
However, no roads should be blocked at the start of the week. However, depending on the evolution of the negotiations with the government of Michel Barnier, the anger of the farmers could take on a new dimension.
In their sights, the free trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries which could be ratified within a few weeks. It could lead to unfair competition for European farmers, who are subject to more regulations and bans than their South American counterparts.
Furthermore, French farmers are awaiting strong proposals to deal with disrupted or even lost harvests due to climatic variations, as well as the worrying progression of bluetongue.
