“It’s a duty to remember”: in Creuse, training organized to become a standard bearer

The standard bearers are fewer and fewer in Creuse. It’s a fact, like the ceremonies in Guéret explains Pierre Poly, president of the national military medal mutual aid society in Creuse: “When I started as master of ceremonies 17 years ago, there were lots of flags and I had to get them tightened. Now I have to put them aside.” To try to motivate certain residents to get involved, Pierre Poly organizes training throughout the department.

The third date took place this Saturday, November 16 in Saint-Maurice-la-Souterraine. Around thirty people made the trip to the town's multipurpose hall, including young people aged 13 and that “it's important” rejoices Pierre Poly: “If there are fewer volunteers, there are fewer people to carry the flags, to take care of these ceremonies, to organize them. It's very sad. And at the end, there will be two people in front of the monument, that is to say the mayor and the one who will perhaps lay the wreath with him.“This is why Pierre Poly also tours the defense classes in Creuse.

Last year, a fifty-year-old was tempted. At 54, Arnaud became standard bearer in Creuse above all for “the duty of memory“With his white gloves on his hands, it's also a means.”to be able to live together. We must have a common goal, common values and the flag is a symbol that represents all of that..”

To follow this training, it's free, but you will have to be patient. The next one will take place at the start of 2025 in Sardent.
