The inauguration of the Labadrie bread oven and the renovation work on the Saint-François d'Assise church, in Saignes, took place on Saturday November 9. Heritage was in the spotlight in the presence of Anne-Cécile Vialle, sub-prefect of Figeac, the deputy Christophe Proença, the senator Raphaël Daubet, the vice-president of the department Caroline Mey, the president of Cauvaldor Jean-Claude Fouché, numerous elected officials and very extensive assistance. A first ribbon was cut in front of the Labadrie bread oven, the last ordinary bread oven in the town, restored according to the rules of the art by local companies.
Claire, a young peasant baker from the village, took this “batch of renewal” out of the oven, relit after more than 70 years of sleep, and everyone was able to rediscover the smells and taste of the bread of yesteryear.
Then the guests met at the Saint-François d'Assise church to admire the work of local craftsmen, in particular the restoration of the magnificent stained glass windows but also of the roofing, the bells, the lighting… Mayor Dominique Malavergne recalled that “there is no small heritage but that each commune contains treasures that must be safeguarded and above all kept alive for future generations.”
