The VTC driver must have thought he was in a film in which he is partly the hero. He allowed and participated in thearrest of a little thug who had called on his services to transport the fruits of his misdeeds.
The story begins on October 24, 2024in Yvelines. The driver receives an order for a curious mission. A customer asks him to get a bank card from someone to deliver to him in Chatou.
What is this scam?
It's suspicious, so the VTC contacts the Saint-Germain-en-Laye police station. And in fact, a victim had just alerted the police because she was the subject of a scam attempt to the fake bank advisor. Someone had to come to her house to collect her means of payment.
This rather well-crafted scam consists of aigrefins calling individuals pretending to be a employee of their bank. Under the bogus pretext of ongoing fraud, they ask them to carry out manipulations on their banking application, then to give their card to a courier, before emptying their account.
Ce process has caused numerous victims across France, with damages often amounting to several thousand euros.
The suspect claims an accessory role in the affair
The anti-crime brigade (Bac) then boards the VTC, of which one of our sources welcomes the “citizen” gesture, to pick up the suspect at the delivery point. This is how this 22-year-old man, residing in Bezons (Val-d'Oise), was placed in police custody.
During his auditionshe initially remained silent before acknowledging the facts, affirming that his role was limited to receiving the means of payment, and then handing it over to a third party.
What we doubt in surroundings of the investigation. “Often, in this type of case, it is the scammer himself who recovers the card because you have to go very quickly to empty the account before it is blocked. »
His immediate appearance on October 28 was postponed to December 2 next. He was, in the meantime, placed in pre-trial detention.
A VTC had already helped the police recently in Yvelines
A few weeks ago, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, a VTC driver had already helped the police to arrest criminals.
On the night of September 27, thieves at the trailer ordered a ride from him. On site, he refused to bring up these two suspicious-looking men, loaded with various tools, before discreetly following his colleague who had agreed to take charge of them, while communicating the vehicle progress to the police. Authors of five thefts, they were sentenced to five months in prison and incarcerated.
