The ABCs aim to help municipalities and intercommunities to better understand local biodiversity, mobilize stakeholders and citizens, and plan concrete actions in favor of its preservation. Since 2017, more than 3,500 municipalities have benefited from financial support from the OFB to carry out these projects. In 2024, as part of the National Biodiversity Strategy 2030, the OFB strengthened its resources, devoting 15 million euros to financing around sixty new ABCs. The ABC Trophies aim to promote these exemplary initiatives, by highlighting good practices and demonstrating their usefulness as local decision-making tools.
The call for applications launched on June 3, 2024 allowed 20 communities to compete in three categories: Know, Mobilize, and Act and plan. After evaluation, a national jury designated the 5 winners.
“Know” category: The ABC of Dol-de-Bretagne, also integrating Épiniac and Baguer-Pican, was rewarded for its in-depth work on taxa specific to the local landscape, useful for mapping areas of concern.
“Mobilize” category (ex-aequo): The municipality of Mûrs-Erigné, for its strategic integration of biodiversity and the active involvement of citizens. The municipality of Thuir, for collective commitment around the ABC, with quality reports and a strong link with the inhabitants.
“Act and plan” category: The commune of Rémire-Montjoly was praised for a robust action plan, focused on the preservation of sensitive environments and the restoration of ecological corridors.
Special prize “All categories”: The Hérault Valley Community of Communes stood out for the excellence of its project, combining knowledge and action, in particular through innovative training for winegrowers on the biodiversity of hedges.
The winners received a symbolic prize and will benefit from dedicated videos to promote their projects. They were also offered a field visit and a subscription to the OFB magazine Biodiversity – Keys to Action.
