Elite French Championship in Chartres—6th day: And here’s another one!

Ahmed Jaouadi spoke of himself again by smashing his personal best.

Ahmed Jaouadi has once again hit the headlines. A champion is born!

The rise of Jaouadi reminds us of what one of our Algerian colleagues said the day after the withdrawal of Mariem Mizouni and the late Ali Gharbi and the first appearance of Faten Ghattas and Samir Bouchelaghem, who took up the torch and carried the Tunisian colors: “They found two others”. Swimming in Tunisia is a blessed sport. It must be recognized. When one withdraws, another takes over. In Chartres, Ahmed Jaouadi came to confuse the issue and impose his rhythm. Lucas’ protégé literally dominated the 1500 meter crawl on this last day of the French Elite Championship. A day that was rich in emotions with Jaouadi’s deserved third consecration. The young champion imposed his style and his manner on this distance, achieving a dream performance in 14:48.69 shattering his personal best 15:10.11 of 21.41!

Placed in corridor 7 with 6e time, the young 19-year-old Tunisian swimmer outclassed the best French specialists in the 1500m, in particular David Aubry, bronze medalist at the Doha 2024 world championships. Ahmed Jaouadi thus won his 3e Olympic minimum A, in crawl in six days of competition, joining the two legendary elders, Oussama Meĺlouli in 2008 in Beijing (200 m, 400 m and 1500 m freestyle) and Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui (400 m, 800 m and 1500 m freestyle ) qualified for the 2024 Olympics.

With this remarkable performance of 14:48.69, Ahmed Jaouadi is positioned 8e world rank, while awaiting the results of the 1500m freestyle event of the American selections, scheduled for today Sunday June 23, 2024 in Indianapolis.

The rest of the Tunisian swimmers involved have experienced varying fortunes, but deserve to be followed in view of the qualities expressed, like Mohamed Yassine Ben Abbes 8e of the B final of the 200 m backstroke in 2:06.39 (2:05.45 during the heats) and 14e sur 1500 m NL and 16:05.30. Belhassen Ben Miled 24e over 200m medley in 2:07.93. Selima Hmailed 28e over 200 m 4 swims in 2.27.30 and Firas Memmi 66e over 100m butterfly in 58.27.

For all these participants, it will be a return to calm and the development of the new curve, which should prepare them for the Paris Olympics.

In the meantime, it’s time for the summer national championships.
