Thiès, Nov 15 (APS) – The administrative commissions of the Thiès department received 9,900 voter cards of which only 162 cards were distributed last week, said Friday the president of the Autonomous Departmental Electoral Commission (CEDA) of Thiès, Ousmane Gaye.
“There are still more than 9,000 cards to distribute,” Ousmane Gaye told APS.
”We are on the home stretch, the main activities are the distribution of cards which will continue until Saturday at midnight,” he explains.
According to him, the pace of card withdrawal is “slow, despite awareness raising” to encourage people to collect their cards.
The president of CEDA considers the current level of distribution of voter cards “very low”, compared to the stock received in the administrative distribution commissions, which was 9,900 cards.
According to the president of the Autonomous Departmental Electoral Commission of Thiès, a vast awareness campaign was carried out throughout the department, in order to encourage people to collect their cards.
Concerning the deployment of supervisors and controllers, Mr. Gaye informed that recruitments have been made since October and that they have benefited from training on what awaits them and their missions in the field.
The department has “819 polling stations which will be controlled by 819 agents” and “291 polling places, which will be supervised by 298 agents”, he informed.
The discrepancy between polling places and the number of supervisors is explained by the fact that there are polling places which exceed 12 stations, and which require two supervisors to facilitate the work.
