the new actress of the Tomb Raider series has been found (and the fans will moan)

We wondered who will play Lara Croft in the Prime Video series Tomb Raider and it seems that the answer has finally arrived.

Since Amazon announced, in January 2023, that Phoebe Waller-Bridge was at the head of a new Tomb Raider series, rumors were rife about the identity of the future adventurer. The latest news from the series showrun by the creator and star of Fleabag and developed by Amazon MGM Studios were that the auditions were in progress.

While speculation was rife as to the future actress who would play the rich adventurer, especially within the editorial staff of Ecran Large where individuals such as Geoffrey or Judith imagined their dream casting with Katy O'Brien in the lead, the production was clearly turning towards unexpected choices.

Deadline revealed in October that the actresses Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton were going to tryouts to succeed Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in the skin of the grave robber, while it is currently Hayley Atwell who lends her voice in the Netflix animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. It seems that the choice has now been made.

Angelina Jolie, the original Lara Croft of cinema

Lara Croft, Queen in the North

Always according to DeadlineIt is Sophie Turner, propelled a few years ago thanks to her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and that of Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix in the saga X-Menwho would have emerged victorious from the casting, seizing arguably the most coveted female role of the moment. On this date, she would be in full negotiations to finalize her contractso the thing has not yet been officially confirmed by Amazon, but it won't be long.

Thoughts for Lucy Boynton whose career is still waiting to take off after a slew of supporting roles in films like Crime on the Orient ExpressBohemian Rhapsody, The Pale Blue Eyeand an appearance cut during editing in Barbie. She and Sophie Turner had generally the same profile : in her early thirties, British nationality (like Lara Croft), big blue eyes, blonde hair, pale complexion and slender figure.

Well, ok, sometimes she's a redhead

Not much to do, on the surface, with the Lara Croft of games or those of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. However, Phoebe Waller-Bridge insisted, from the announcement of the project, on her attachment to original video games:

“Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to a lot of people, and I can't wait to embark on this adventure.”

Will Sophie Turner be physically transformed to stick more closely to the character (with at least, we hope, a few more muscles for reasons of credibility), or will Phoebe Waller-Bridge, on the contrary, bet ona radically different Lara Croft (and maybe that will be good)?

Lucy Boynton watching the role go away

There is no doubt, in any case, that this choice will make fans scream, as was the case with all previous films (Angelina Jolie still remembers the way she was attacked on her chest by legions of players who were very keen to examine her bra size as insufficient) and as is always the case with icons of pop culture cherished by several generations (Batman and James Bond can attest to this).

From now on, there is only trust the Waller-Bridge-Turner duo to give birth to a new Lara Croft worthy of silencing the haters (i.e. Geoffrey).
