The fans gathered in front of the set of Hogwarts Castle brandished their wands towards the sky to honor the memory of the actress, legend of theater and cinema. A gesture often used in the books of the saga to pay homage to the dead.
When Alan Rickman, aka Snape in the eight films based on the successful novels, died, potterheads expressed their grief in the same way. The actor died of devastating cancer in 2016.
“Incredibly kind”
Daniel Radcliffe, the interpreter of Harry Potter, praised in a press release an “incredibly kind” actress. “She was very intelligent, she didn’t hold her tongue in her pocket. She could intimidate you and charm you at the same time.”
“She was whole, honest, funny, proud,” said Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the saga. “Thank you again for your kindness. I will miss you.”
One of Britain’s best-known and most celebrated artists, Maggie Smith was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1990 and a Companion of Honor in 2014.
During her long career, Maggie Smith has won two Oscars, six Baftas (including an honorary one), four Emmy Awards, for a total of 108 nominations across all awards.
