A traffic accident involving a car and a truck claimed the life of a Czech tourist on Friday in Val-de-Ruz. In a press release released on Saturday, the Neuchâtel Police explained that around 5 p.m., the Neuchâtel Emergency Center (CNU) was informed of the tragedy that occurred near La Rincieure in the commune of Savagnier.
A truck traveling in the direction of Dombresson threw a stone against the vehicle of the 60-year-old woman who was normally traveling in the opposite direction. “Several elements demonstrate that the stone in question was initially stuck in one of the dual wheels of the truck,” wrote the Police. After shattering the car’s windshield, the projectile hit the driver in the head before exiting through the rear window.
The police specified that, “thanks to the composure of the front passenger”, the vehicle was able to be stopped without incident several hundred meters further. The front passenger and the child in the back seat did not suffer any injuries.
Seriously injured in the head, the driver had to be airlifted to the Island Hospital in Bern where she died a few hours later.
The road located between the Moulin de Bayerel and Moulin-des-Sauges roundabouts was closed to traffic for three hours for the purposes of the report. /comm-cde
