The Trans-Chablais highway, by its official name “A412”, is an old project dating from the 1970s, abandoned then relaunched and still contested.

For several years, the cities of Geneva and Carouge, but also various associations such as France Nature Environnement, Les Amis de la Terre, La Déroute des Routes, Attac, the National Federation of Transport User Associations and the Confédération Paysanne have stood together common against the Thonon-les-Bains-Machilly (-Annemasse) connection, considered to be “anachronistic” et “ecocidal”.

Mobilizations under the banner “L’après-route” took place throughout France. Concerning the Chablais project, it was to the town of Perrignier that the convoy of numerous tractors and hundreds of activists headed, on the threatened land of the Roch farm which raises dairy cows in the Reblochon production zone.

The speakers requested the cancellation of the project, but also pleaded in favor of the development of public transport around the Léman Express and in the Thonon-Douvaine-Geneva axis.

The French legislative elections are closely scrutinized here. Indeed, if the presidential party has maintained its support for the A412, the alliance of the left and environmentalists New Popular Front, dynamic in the polls, has announced that it wants to cancel all motorway projects in the event of victory.
