Four people were reported missing on Saturday morning in the Misox, a valley in southern Graubünden, after thunderstorms and massive rainfall. People had to be evacuated from their homes. During this time, the situation has not deteriorated in Valais.

Several dozen people had to be evacuated from their homes in the Misox and Calanca region, the Graubünden cantonal police announced on Saturday after 5:00 a.m. No further information was available at the time of publication of the press release. The cantonal police called a press conference on Saturday morning.

Thunderstorms and massive rainfall caused flooding on Friday evening after a landslide, the press release continued. Rivers burst their banks and roads were flooded.

In Misox, a landslide occurred on Friday, interrupting the A13 highway in both directions between Roveredo (GR) and Lumino (TI). The A13 and the Italian road H13 had to be closed between San Vittore and the north portal of the San Bernardino tunnel. Access from the north towards Roveredo was not possible due to the closure, Graubünden cantonal police said.

Zermatt still isolated

The situation in the canton of Valais did not worsen during the night from Saturday to Sunday, indicated a spokesperson for the Valais cantonal police interviewed by the Keystone-ATS press agency. The situation will be reassessed after a meeting of the crisis unit early in the morning.

The line between Visp and Zermatt remained closed due to the risk of flooding. There was no alternative transport offered, the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn company reported early Saturday morning on X.

The president of the Zermatt municipality, Romy Biner-Hauser, told German-speaking television SRF on Friday that vacationers were safe. Those who could not arrive or leave would be offered accommodation.

The railway line between Riddes and Ardon in Bas-Valais remains interrupted on Saturday morning. Replacement buses provided the journey for travelers between Sion and Martigny as well as between Ardon and Riddes, the CFF indicated on their website.
