Placed on orange alert for rain and floods and yellow for thunderstorms by Météo France, Friday June 21, 2024, Loir-et-Cher woke up again with its feet in the water, especially to the south of the Loire.

The firefighters were called a good number of times to carry out evacuations or to secure roads with the intervention of the gendarmes and the departmental council services.

In Mur-de Sologne, a situation deemed “catastrophic”

This Friday morning, the gendarmerie reported several flooded neighborhoods in Mur-de-Sologne where two families were taken care of by the town hall. A third is waiting to be evacuated. Contacted, Yves Villanueva, the mayor of the town, reports a “catastrophic” situation. “In some houses, there are 40 to 50 centimeters of water. We have been on a war footing since 3:30 a.m. this morning and have requested the intervention of civil security. A real river has formed on the Blois-Romorantin axis. We are considering opening emergency accommodation in the village hall.”

In Gy-en-Sologne, emergency services were also on site early in the morning, due to a road covered in water towards Soings-en-Sologne. Same situation at a place called “Les Maisons rouge”, on the D122, in Controis-en-Sologne.

The ditches also overflow on the side of the D13, between Vernou-en-Sologne and Romorantin. Motorists are advised to take an alternate route.

Canceled events

This bad weather is forcing several organizers to cancel events such as the Fête de la Musique in Chambord and Romorantin.

Loir-et-Cher is not experiencing its first floods since the start of 2024. The weekend of March 30 and 31, then at the beginning of May, the department had already experienced significant rainfall, leading to overflowing of rivers and ponds.
