The fourth edition of the Grand 8 is preparing to charm the Saint-Nazaire area with a series of open-air concerts. Organized by the Les Escales association, this traveling festival offers eight concerts in eight different towns, offering a varied program ranging from rock to blues, including folk.

Eight venues, eight dates, eight concerts

Frédéric Petit, president of Escales, explains that the Grand 8 was created following the Covid-19 health crisis. It is a series of concerts throughout the Saint-Nazaire metropolitan area, created to allow you to get some fresh air and reconnect with culture and shows. Banking on good weather, the event takes place outdoors as much as possible, in places suitable for walking and emblematic of each town.

Each concert is held in a location chosen for its unique setting, encouraging a musical stroll through the towns. What is sought is circulation from commune to commune, specifies Frédéric Petit. Free and open to all, the festival aims to complete the summer cultural offering and encourage municipalities to develop educational activities.

A concerted program

The programming is the result of consultation with the municipalities, taking into account their expectations and highlighting local or Western artists. The selected artists, all songwriters, often come from underground networks, encouraging the emergence of new talents. Each concert lasts around an hour, taking advantage of daylight for a friendly and warm atmosphere.

The festivities will begin on Sunday June 23 in Saint-Malo-de-Guersac with the performance of Djusu. Next will be Alex de Vree on Friday June 28 in Saint-Joachim, The Flying Bones on Saturday June 29 in Trignac, The Blue Butter Pot on Wednesday July 3 in Donges, Odd Berries on Friday July 5 in La Chapelle-des-Marais, Vertical on Saturday July 6 in Saint-André-des-Eaux, NeF on Sunday July 7 in Montoir-de-Bretagne, and finally Shama on Wednesday July 10 in Besné.

The festival also creates, at the end of the concerts, a time for discussion between artists and spectators.
