The mayor of Beaucaire, Nelson Chaudon, denounces the inconsistency of the State and warns about the future of the building on the fishing island.

In a video broadcast on the city's social networks, the councilor of Beaucaire recalls the history of this block of more than 1000 m2 in the heart of the city center “walled up and abandoned for almost 40 years”. An island protected as “Remarkable heritage sites”. Despite security work, this island “remains dangerous”while the demolition permit filed by the city was refused a few days ago by the State.
Total demolition permit refused by the State
The new mayor of Beaucaire emphasizes that the State, since 2014, “remains deaf to the urgent need to act in this matter.” He warns of the urgency of the situation which recently pushed him to temporarily relocate dozens of local residents and to install (for several tens of thousands of euros) scaffolding tunnels to protect the passage around the island and allow local residents to return to their homes.
An archaeological excavation prescription
Recently and through his lawyers, the councilor indicates that he managed to obtain a total demolition permit “tacitly”. Dramatic twist, “we have received an archaeological excavation requirement imposed by the regional prefecture”judged “financially and technically incoherent”. Nelson Chaudon urges the regional prefect to react and reverse his outrageous decisions. He also warns that in the event of collapse, he will hold the State responsible before the competent courts.
