A major fire broke out in an apartment in a residential building Friday, late in the morning in the Saint-Roch sector, in Quebec. The blaze required the intervention of around thirty firefighters.

The firefighters were called to intervene shortly after 11:30 a.m. in a home on rue Saint-Vallier Est in the Lauberivière sector.

When they arrived, a column of black smoke was already escaping from the door on the ground floor as well as the rear of the building. Fortunately the occupants had already evacuated the premises.

Shortly after 11:50 a.m., the majority of the flames that had started in the kitchen had already been knocked down. However, it is impossible to determine at this time whether it was a cooking fire.

The fire, which was considered under control around 12:35 p.m., was limited to the ground floor apartment. The two upper floors and the adjacent building were therefore not affected.

The Red Cross was also on site to take care of the resident since he will not be able to return due to the significant damage caused by the flames and smoke.
