The Senegalese are called to the polls on Sunday to elect their deputies, eight months after the large presidential victory of Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on a promise to break with his predecessor Macky Sall.
Senegal will elect its next Parliament on Sunday, November 17, with the new leaders hoping to obtain a clear majority to keep the promise of rupture which allowed them to win the presidential election eight months ago.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, widely elected in March, dissolved the Assembly in September, as soon as the Constitution allowed him to do so, provoking these early legislative elections. What are the major issues in the election? Can Pastef win the day? France 24 takes stock.
Reverse the balance of power
The 7.3 million registered voters can confirm their choice in March by giving a parliamentary majority to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
They will go to the polls again, following a long democratic tradition while elsewhere in West Africa, the military have imposed by force agendas that they also call sovereignist and pan-Africanist.
For its part, the opposition trumpets that in eight months Ousmane Sonko has spoken a lot and acted little.
