What is happening at Sciences Po Paris? Friday November 8, 2024, a student discovered a camera in the toilet mixed from the library of the Institute of Political Studies. A shock for the students. Less for the management which had already been informed of similar facts in September 2024. A complaint was then filed, but the alumni had not been informed.

“I always look in the toilet”

Two months later, a different strategy was adopted and the students were sent a mail informing them of the find. But the damage is done. For some, trust is broken.

This is the case of César*, a second year student. “I am especially shocked that the administration did not warn us. They weren't the ones who put these cameras. I don’t blame them for that, but for not keeping us informed from the first time,” explains the young man to Paris news. He also allegedly tried to contact the school's health center. Result ? “No response.”

Same feeling for Lola, a master 1 student for whom the management “multiplies the errors since it don't even think about protecting your students“. Despite an overall climate “which has not really changed”, she confirms a lack of confidence in the administration in its ability to “help us, listen to us and protect us”.

Beyond the distrust towards the general staff of rue Saint-Guillaume, the presence of these cameras has impacted the well-being of some. “It creates a real daily anxiety . I always look in the toilets when I go there now, everywhere in Sciences Po and not just in the library,” confides Rita, who started her first year in September 2024. She would also like “more support. »

A complaint filed by management

A case whose shockwave went far beyond the walls of the school. Axelle, currently in her third year abroad, says she is “deeply disappointed and disgusted faced with the lack of communication on the subject. » According to her, opting for the strategy of silence contributes to the “distant image of its students” that the management seems to be building, “to the point of shutting itself down despite the health and safety of all”.

According to The Parisianthe discovery of the first camera led to the establishment of regular checks. Friday November 8, 2024, an addition was made to the first complaint filed in September 2024.

When contacted, the management of Sciences Po Paris did not not followed upto our requests.
