Saturday November 9, the whole of Chalosse met in Garrey, a small village of 215 inhabitants, which has just been completely renovated. Chantal Omiciuolo, mayor of the village, welcomed Eric Requet, sub-prefect of Landes, Xavier Fortinon, president of the Departmental Council, Monique Lubin, senator, the departmental councilors Didier Gaugeacq and Christine Fournadet as well as the mayors, elected officials and residents of Chalosse without forgetting the children of RPI Garrey-Sort and their teachers.
The planned development of the village had been under study for years in order to balance agricultural activity and population growth, with the upcoming creation of a subdivision of 25 houses. It is therefore the town center which has been redeveloped between the three roads, the town hall, the church and the presbytery, also a rehabilitation project to create four social housing units.
A square in front of the town hall
The limited urban space required real requalification through the creation of sidewalks, a speed limit zone, raised platforms, signage and the development of the roadways which serve the village with an essential concern for safety. The creation of the square in front of the town hall highlights the architecture of the typical Chalosse site.
The project was important for a small village with a total of work of 400,000 euros excluding tax but the municipality benefited from 190,000 euros in aid excluding tax: from the State with the DETR (Equipment grant for rural territories), from fines from the police, from the department with the FEC (Communal Equipment Fund) and from the community of communes Terres de Chalosse for the roads.
Chantal Omiciuolo thanked all those involved but also the residents who, for six months, were patient, even the parents of students coming to drop off or pick up their children at school. Not only did no one complain, but the feedback from the population was very positive, proof that the work meets a real need.
