In an interview this Friday with online press outlets, the head of the coalition list Jamm Ak Njariñ discusses the difficult economic situation that Senegal is currently going through since the arrival of the new regime. Amadou Bâ recalls that as a minister in Macky Sall’s government, he did not have a disbursement program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In reality, Amadou will say, “the IMF makes it easier for countries like Senegal to obtain loans. But in a republic, we must respect the principle of continuity. I had a 3-year agreement with the IMF even if the new authorities deemed it necessary to agree with the IMF for this continuity, this was not ultimately respected. But basically, you should know that this new posture of the IMF will impact what Senegal should receive from its other partners which, naturally, are based on the position of the international financial institution in relation to Senegal,” indicated Amadou Bâ without forgetting to add that “the current economic situation could get worse in the coming months.
