Teachers from Mallarmé College relaunched a mobilization, this Thursday, June 20, in Sens, in order to obtain resources that meet the needs of their establishment, whose social position index is particularly low.

Their classes finished this Thursday, June 20, the teachers of Mallarmé college, in Sens, did not all leave the premises. Around fifteen of them, almost half of the teaching team, remained on site, in the teachers’ room, with snacks. Objective: occupy the ground, discuss the form and continuation of their mobilization, visible on banners, hung on the gates.

A low social positioning index

As they had already done at the start of the year, teachers are asking for time and human resources adapted to their establishment, which has around 4,000 students, sometimes from disadvantaged backgrounds. “Although Mallarmé college is in the city center, it has a social positioning index

among the lowest in the department, lower, for example than that of the Collège des Champs-Plaisants, indicates Vincent Devaux. We have students in complicated family situations. However, we are not one of the best-resourced establishments, because we are not in a priority education zone.”

Teacher competitions: more than 1,500 school teacher positions unfilled

This year, “with few additional resources”, the establishment managed to organize half-groups for certain courses. “We will no longer be able to do it next year”, fear the teachers, who point the finger at “the shock knowledge”. “To put this reform in place, we had to recover hours left and right, stripping away all the materials to make groups,” explains Bertrand Morel.

“We would like to have more flexibility, to be given room for maneuver to offer our students a more adapted educational framework, continues Vincent Devaux. We are asking for hours, but also for staff, including teaching assistants, to monitor the three courses of our college The Directorate of Departmental Services of National Education (Dsden) should take into account not the number of students, but the configuration of the establishment. The latter could not be reached this Thursday.

Students who do not master the language

Teachers would also like the establishment to have an educational unit for arriving allophone students (UP2A). “This unit allows students who do not know the language to be supported, depending on their age. Some of our students go to UP2A at another college, but it is not comfortable. Two teachers from Mallarmé are already willing to participate.”

* The social positioning index (IPS) summarizes the socio-economic and cultural conditions of the families of students hosted in the establishment.
