Teacher, depressed… What do we know about the mother?

Will we one day know what happened in this house in Taninges, in Haute-Savoie, where three children were found dead on Tuesday? The day after the macabre discovery, the body of a woman was found in Switzerland.

If checks are underway to determine if it is indeed the mother of the family, according to information transmitted by the Swiss police to French investigators, the body is indeed that of the mother of the children, actively sought since Tuesday. Described as depressed, who was this 45-year-old woman?

A teacher involved in local life

The mother of the two boys aged 2 and 11 and the 13 year old girl found dead on Tuesday was a teacher in a primary school in a village near Taninges. According to Bleu Pays de Savoie, the teacher was born in Samoëns, had dual French-Swiss nationality and was very involved in local life. According to local radio, the mother was a flautist and treasurer of the music school at the Haut-Giffre station.

She lived with her partner, the father of the youngest boy, “in a hamlet a little far from the town in a somewhat idyllic setting”, according to the mayor of Taninges Gilles Péguet. According to the latter, the couple's parents and grandparents lived nearby. The mother was known for depression problems.

A hamlet of 11 inhabitants

The hamlet where the family resided, located away from the village, has only 11 inhabitants and the three young victims were the only children living there, said a neighbor. “They often rode bikes, they were cheerful,” she added, declaring herself “stunned” by these “inconceivable” murders.

This triple infanticide caused strong emotion in this mountain town of 3,500 inhabitants in the Giffre valley, approximately 50 km east of Geneva, where a medico-psychological emergency unit was set up at the town hall. . Two establishments where the mother had worked received a visit from a representative of the rectorate on Wednesday morning and a “listening unit” was set up. “The resources are put in place so that staff and students can feel supported in this tragedy,” we explained to the rectorate.
