Line B of the Rennes metro will resume service this Thursday at noon, after five months of traffic interruption. The State gave the green light for the line to return to commercial operation on Wednesday and operating authorization was granted this Thursday morning by the Prefecture.

This line between Cesson Via-Silva and Saint-Jacques – Gaîté has been at a standstill since January 3, after a breakdown in the bogies which allow the train to move forward. A security system was triggered, preventing trains from running. All of the trains on the line had to be repaired by the manufacturer, Siemens, to be able to run again. Today, 16 trains, out of the 25 which were circulating on the line before the breakdown, have been reassembled and are operational. The missing dozen will come gradually in the summer.

“Sixteen trainsets will be operational, ensuring the passage of a metro every 2’50” during peak hours” explains the town hall.

Direct consequence: the replacement bus network set up by the STAR network and which was in service before the shutdown of line B, will stop on Sunday July 7. From Monday July 8, the STAR bus network will return to its form before the metro outage.
