River water is warming up, are fish in danger?

It's a fact, the region's rivers are affected by global warming. In Maine-et-, the departmental fishing federation has decided to set up a thermal monitoring program in several waterways, to preserve marine inhabitants.

Indeed, like mammals, fish are also affected by warming rivers. Camille Logie, project manager at the federation, provided some explanations in the columns ofActu.fr. For her, this monitoring aims to analyze, then find, the species that are most inclined to survive the warming of the water. During heatwaves, the temperature can reach 25 degrees in certain courtyards.

Some species are doomed to disappear

In total, seven rivers are now equipped with probes: Avresne, Pont-Laurent, Moulins, Beuvron, Abriard, Trézenne and Èvre. Twice a day, a solar sensor which is placed out of the water sends data to the members of the federation. Over time, the data will make it possible to analyze the behavior of fish in the face of temperature variations.

Camille Logie points out that certain species have an easier time supporting these variations than others. And as a result, some are doomed to disappear from the department's courses. The federation hopes to be able to draw the first conclusions from the study in a year, and thus make it possible to choose the right species of fish during stocking campaigns.
