Still criticized but still adored, Cédric Grolet sparks controversy once again. The launch of its ham and butter sandwich with a truffle supplement priced at 30 euros does not go unnoticed on social networks.
A creation, a controversy
“It’s not worth the price because it costs 30 euros but it’s a very good sandwich,” explains an influencer on TikTok. “Shows it’s possible to make a buttered ham more expensive than that of the SNCF”, “I want a sandwich on credit”, “this is a sample of sandwich”… write Internet users under the presentation video of the pastry chef who has been working at Le Meurice for more than ten years.
As a reminder, according to The Echoesa ham and cheese sandwich sells on average for 3.75 euros in bakeries in France. The truffle supplement, whose average price is around 1,180 euros per kilo, also increases the bill by this flagship product of French culture.
For several years, each new creation by Cédric Grolet provokes a wind of controversy. After his Christmas log mocked for its aesthetics, his strawberry tart criticized for its unshelled fruit or his galette des rois described as a “scam”, the pastry chef is used to outbursts of blame on social networks.
On the other hand, the opening of its bakery on Boulevard de l'Opéra in 2019 or its café in the same district had caused endless queues. Enough to reassure the thirty-year-old chef with 11.6 million subscribers on Instagram.
