The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announces that the Canadian Coast Guard has recovered the body of a missing fisherman near Sweet Bay, a small community located approximately 80 km from Bonavista on the east coast of the island of Newfoundland.

The 59-year-old man went fishing Tuesday morning and did not return home.

Someone called the RCMP the same day to report the presence of his fishing boat on the coast of Sweet Bay. The boat was full of water.

There RCMP requested assistance from the Canadian Coast Guard. Authorities found and recovered the fisherman’s body.

Winds were strong that day, authorities said.

There RCMP, which is continuing its investigation, has also contacted the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
