The liquidation of Stenpa stationery in Stenay (Meuse), confirmed by the Bar-le-Duc commercial court, Friday November 8, marks the end of an era. According to L'Est Républicain, while the company would have celebrated its centenary next year, today 124 direct jobs and around 200 indirect jobs are disappearing, weakening an already economically vulnerable region.

The official deliberations of the commercial court of Bar-le-Duc is expected this Wednesday, November 13.

Almost 100 years of existence

The Stenay paper mill was much more than a simple business; since 1924, it had symbolized the industrial dynamism of the Meuse. Its takeover in 2023 by the German fund Accursia Capital had nevertheless instilled new hope, quickly extinguished by the recent legal decision.

Distraught employees, upset families

For Stenpa employees, the news is a real earthquake. With this closure, the economic future of Stenay and its surroundings is compromised. Hundreds of families are plunged into uncertainty, and the local economic fabric, including traders and subcontractors, will also suffer the repercussions of this liquidation.

The time has now come to find solutions for these employees, many of whom have worked in the company for a very long time.
