Spectacular intervention by firefighters this Tuesday morning in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse. Several dozen of them were mobilized to help residents of a building on the Route de Versailles, victims of collective carbon monoxide poisoning, a deadly odorless gas.

Firefighters were called mid-morning by tenants complaining of headaches and nausea. “These are fairly common ailments but these people became worried when they realized that many of them were suffering from them,” confides a firefighter.

Headaches and drowsiness

Arriving on site, the rescuers decided to evacuate the building of its residents. 47 people then rushed out of their apartment. There was no serious poisoning but three children and four adults were taken to hospital for detailed examinations.

According to the very first findings, the carbon monoxide would have been produced by a boiler or a defective VMC. Known for its lethal power, this gas with the formula CO results from poor combustion and can be found in faulty heating devices. Cases of poisoning from barbecues or stoves, indoors, are not rare either. The poisoning then results in headaches, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting. You must then immediately leave the premises and ventilate the premises. There are also carbon monoxide detectors.
