The president of the CFE-CGC was dismissed as part of the legal recovery procedure for his company Niche Fused Alumina. The factory based in La Bâthie (Savoie) lost around fifty employees when it was bought by the industrial company Alteo.

A dismissed union leader. Never seen before. However, this is what has just happened to François Hommeril, president of the CFE-CGC. For several months, his company Niche Fused Alumina based in La Bâthie (Savoie), specializing in the production of white corundum, an aluminum oxide used in aerospace and the automobile industry, has been in bad shape.
Placed in receivership, the factory was bought by the industrialist Alteo, which separated around fifty of the company's 170 employees. François Hommeril is himself affected by this layoff plan.
The union leader had made a strong commitment in recent months to avoid the closure of the factory. He does not hide having “requested his address book and (been) involved at the highest level of the State” pour “that there is a buyer who arrives”, he told AFP. “The buyer only takes on 119 employees. There are some who are not taken over, that’s my case, that’s it”adds the union leader.
This situation was difficult for the executive who had worked in this company for almost 26 years. “Everything is as if you were going home in the evening. Night has fallen, it's a little cool, you take out your key, but it doesn't work. You can't get in. Someone opens it and says, 'You're not home anymore, actually. Go away.' It's a moment that can do a lot of harm.” he described to the newspaper The World.
At 63, François Hommeril has one and a half years left before retiring. Even if he is now unemployed, the union leader will remain at the head of the CFE-CGC until the end of his mandate in June 2026.
Last week, after announcements of job cuts at Auchan and Michelin, the government said it expected numerous social plans in the coming months in France. In total, 150,000 people could be affected, according to the CGT.
