Many new releases will be added to the Netflix catalog in December 2024. Among them, this 7 Oscar-winning biopic directed by one of the most prolific filmmakers of his generation, fourth most viewed film at the cinema in 2023.

After a month of November marked by the magic of Christmas, Netflix has revealed the list of new releases that will be added to its already busy catalog in December. Among the series to discover are the new seasons of Virgin River, Squid Game and of Gabriel and his little demons. The British series Black Doves starring Keira Knightley will also be available, as will the dark comedy Behind the facade worn by Lisa Kudrow. On the film side, Netflix will hit hard with the arrival of the saga Transformersyou blockbuster Spider-Man : No Way Home with Tom Holland and this biopic with 4 million admissions.

It is next December 21 that the biopic Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy will arrive on Netflix. The star of Peaky Blinders stars Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt and Matt Damon in this production by Christopher Nolan which retraces key moments in the life of Robert Oppenheimer, a brilliant physicist hired by the American government to develop the first atomic bomb of the story. It is in the ultra-secret Los Alamos laboratory, in the heart of the New Mexico desert, that the scientist and his team developed this revolutionary weapon.

Oppenheimer was not only a hit at the box office in (where it scored the 4th best result of 2023) and around the world, Christopher Nolan's film was also unanimously praised by critics. After the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes, the biopic triumphed at the 96th edition of the Oscars which took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. During the evening broadcast on the American channel ABC, Cillian Murphy walked away with the statuette for best actor, while Robert Downey Jr. won that for best actor in a supporting role. The biopic won five other awards: the Oscar for best director for Christopher Nolan, best film, best cinematography, best editing and best film music.
