The accident occurred this Tuesday early in the afternoon on the quays of Rouen, below the Jeanne d'Arc bridge. A walker was hit by a fire truck. The firefighters were preparing an exercise when, during a maneuver, their vehicle “would have hit the victim, aged 82, who died instantly”, indicates the press release from the public prosecutor, Sébastien Gallois. An investigation for intentional homicide was opened to determine the circumstances of the maneuver and the accident.
A psychological unit set up
According to our information, the vehicle was reversing and the driver did not see the victim. “The driver and the two other crew members will all be promptly questioned by the police,” specifies the prosecution. The vehicle was placed under seal. An autopsy of the victim will be carried out.
A large number of police and firefighters were deployed and the platforms were closed to walkers for the duration of the intervention. A psychological cell will be put in place for SDIS76 personnel.
