[INFO 78ACTU] Waste collection was severely disrupted in the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines sector and in the heart of Yvelines. All because of an incredible theft. According to our information, since Monday June 17, 2024 in the morning, 45 trucks responsible for collecting the trash are complete stop on the Sepur site, in Thiverval-Grignon (Yvelines).

On the night of Sunday June 16, the premises received visits from several very malicious individuals. Methodically, they cut out the pot lines 45 trucks to take them away; probably with powerful grinders. An operation that requires time and resources given the scale of the theft. If only to get it all out.

“These are truck exhausts, not Twingos. Means were needed. In short, this is not an operation carried out at random. »

At least 1 million euros in damage

The Yvelines gendarmerie was tasked with leading the investigation. She already knows that she finds herself facing a sector whose purpose is to recover the precious metals contained in catalytic converters.

According to our source, the first amount of damage was set at nearly one million euros. “And again, that’s an estimate. Because it will be necessary to take into account the additional repair costs and the difficulties caused for the company in its operation. »

“Normally, the service is restored”

Sepur confirmed the theft to 78actu. “We alerted the municipalities concerned as quickly as possible and filed a complaint. And we brought in emergency trucks from other depots. Normally, the service became fully operational again this Tuesday evening,” specifies the communications department.

Sepur considers that the amount of damage should be reduced, even if it remains significant. For now, she is counting on 500,000 euros damage.
