“Does the state owe us anything?” or “Can science satisfy our need for truth?”. The candidates had to philosophize on one of these two subjects this Tuesday, June 18, for the first written test of the 2024 baccalaureate.

Sheets put away and revisions finished… At least for philosophy. 11,902 final year students from Reunion had 4 hours this Tuesday, for the traditional first baccalaureate exam.

Some gazes were lost in space at the Moulin Joli de la Possession high school this morning. Shortly before 10 a.m., the official start time of the first written test, the students have to manage a certain amount of pressure.

“I’m stressed, because philosophy is complicated.” confides a final year student. “I prefer to be confident, so as not to destabilize myself.” reassures another student.

To give the candidates confidence and avoid too much stress, the Moulin Joli high school in La Possession organized a breakfast to encourage them.

At the end of the 4-hour test, feelings and impressions were varied.

In the general series, candidates had to choose between these two questions: “Does the State owe us anything?” or “Can science satisfy our need for truth?”

For the technology series, they had the choice between “Is nature hostile to man?” And “Is the artist master of his work?”

The 11,902 candidates will have to wait for their grades to find out if their inspiration and knowledge have paid off. The results of the 2024 baccalaureate will be known on July 8.

As a reminder, last year, the baccalaureate success rate in Reunion was 89.8%, after the remedial exams.
