After withdrawing the tramway project from the City of Quebec and entrusting it to CDPQ Infra last November, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility committed to retaining 117 employees of the Quebec Tramway Project Office . It is impossible to know if these jobs will be maintained, a few days before the deadline.

It’s too early to answer these questionsthe ministry tells us by email, a few days after the submission of the CDPQ Infra report which recommends the construction of the first phase of the tramway.

Last winter, the 117 employees, out of a team of 163, were considered by the MTMD essential to the activities and work authorized during the project pause, including collaboration with CDPQ Infra.

They were paid under the same conditions from funds already authorized by the government for the preparatory phase of the tram project.

The cost of the bill was estimated at $7 million for a period of 6 months from January 1, 2024.

Even though Prime Minister François Legault gave the green light to the project, he did not provide details on the formula that would be chosen to get the project underway or in how long.

He did not specify whether the government will favor collaboration between CDPQ Infra, which has expressed its desire to build the tramway, and the Project Office of the City of Quebec, which has carried out all the studies to date.

Radio-Canada asked the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility if it was possible for the remuneration of the 117 employees to be extended until an agreement was reached for the future. THE MTMD was not able to specify it.
