The Olympic flame passes this Wednesday, June 19, from the Alpes-Maritimes to Vaucluse. This is the 35th stage of the Olympic torch relay. Seven routes are deployed with passages either in built-up areas or in remarkable sites. We will explain everything to you.

For all those who have been asking for more since his visit to Marseille and who have been waiting to see (or see again) the Olympic flame up close, this is a gift. After crossing the Alpes-Maritimes this June 18, it will illuminate Vaucluse. 112 runners will take turns over 200 meters this Wednesday.

What time and where will the flame arrive?

  • 8:30 a.m. / 8:50 a.m.: the flame will arrive in Vaucluse via Colorado Provençal from 8:30 a.m., in “an area not accessible to the public”, specifies the prefecture. 5 porters will take turns over 900 meters. 60 gendarmes will be deployed on this stage, including the Republican Guard. Due to the risk of fire, this passage will therefore take place behind closed doors.
  • 9 a.m./9/55: Apt, the flame is expected at the Plan d’eau de la Riaille (historic center), 16 bearers are planned over 3.3 km
  • 11:30 a.m. / 12:15 p.m.: Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (historic center) with 16 porters over 3.3 km
  • 12:45 p.m. / 1:15 p.m.: summit of Mont Ventoux, 3 porters over 1.25 km
  • 3:10 p.m. / 4:10 p.m.: Orange (historic center) at the Ancient Theater, 18 porters over 3.8 km
  • 5:05 p.m. / 5:30 p.m.: Sorgues (city center), Himalayan footbridge above the Ouvèze
  • 5:45 p.m.: Avignon (sports park, ring road, papal palace) with 37 carriers over 7.6 km
  • then lighting the cauldron on Pont-Saint-Bénezet

“These times correspond to the lighting times of the first torch at each segment”, specifies the Vaucluse prefecture.

Restriction of movement of heavy goods vehicles in Avignon

In Avignon, heavy goods vehicle traffic will be prohibited from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.:
• on the RD225, Carpentras/Avignon axis, filtering will be put in place from the roundabout of
the Avignon Nord highway. Vehicles will be redirected to Carpentras or will be invited to
get back on the highway;
• on the RD907, Sorgues/Avignon axis, filtering will be put in place upstream of the junction
towards Avignon. Heavy goods vehicles will be redirected towards Orange or Carpentras;
• on the RD907/RD900, Cavaillon-Bouches-du-Rhône/Avignon south axis, filtering will be implemented
place, at the Bonpas interchange. They will be redirected towards the north of Bouches-du-
Rhône to reach the Gard, or towards the A7 to reach the north of Vaucluse.

• the Avignon Nord and Avignon Sud exits will be closed to heavy goods vehicles from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.;
• recommended outings: South Orange and Cavaillon.

Baccalaureate candidates preserved

As the common core tests begin for all candidates for the 2024 baccalaureate, the prefecture and academic management have worked on the accessibility of establishments which are examination centers. “Access to the 11 schools and examination centers is preserved in the morning and early reception arrangements are planned for certain establishments from 6:45 a.m. Restrictions of
traffic will be in place from 9 a.m.“, explains the prefecture.

If you are traveling by car

It is recommended :
• to anticipate your travels with regard to the restrictions put in place within each of the
municipalities;
• to favor relay car parks, free for the occasion: Piot Island, Italian parking lot,
Courtine, Agroparc, Saint-Chamand. Additional park and ride facilities will be open:
parking at the Gillardeaux stadium (avenue de Tarascon), parking at the Avignon shopping center
North Le Pontet, Mistral 7 shopping center car park, shopping center car park
Courtine, René Char car park.

By public transport

Favor the train, public transport (free bus and tram), carpooling, modes
gentle travel (bicycles, scooters, on foot, etc.). The Orizo network will be free all day and will provide connections to postponement stops. On the Zou regional network, school and regular lines will be severely disrupted from 1 p.m. to midnight.
