the essential
Created in 2010, and offering young people the opportunity to carry out missions of general interest for six to twelve months, civic service continues to provide associations, in many areas, with significant support but also to open up doors to certain young people in search of meaning.

On Wednesday, around ten of them were received at the prefecture to testify and share their experience. “At the time of its creation, civic service was perhaps considered too much as a path for people in integrationsays the prefect, Charles Giusti. With young people who didn't necessarily know what to do. But, in reality, for young citizens it is often a means of getting involved in our society.”

Thus, several young people who have gone through civic service came to tell about their past within an association or the fire brigade. “It’s always an opportunity that must be seized and it can open other doors, allow you to meet people, create a network”confides one of them.

In Aveyron, 60% of people who have joined civic service are women. In 2023, the department had 206 volunteers, compared to 174 the previous year. A significant increase which was the result of long work”support and presentation of the system to communities and associationsunderlines Simon Ramat, the departmental referent. And we still have work to do to make this system known, which will allow many young people to find a path or paths for later life.”
