Terrible law of series in Haute-Garonne. Friday November 8, 2024, for the third time in three weeks, a young man died after being struck by a motorist sous cocaine.
Occurred on departmental road 4, between Lagardelle-sur-Lèze et Eaunesthe accident this time cost the life of a 16 year old teenagerwhich was circulating calmly on a scooterbefore being hit head-on by a driver under the influence of drugs, who ran away before being arrested.
The motorist, aged 37, is in prison
According to our information, the motorist in question was referred to the Toulouse public prosecutor's office on Sunday. Aged 37 ansit is, this Monday, incarcerated at the remand center fox (Ariege).
An investigating judge was contacted, in order to open an investigation into aggravated manslaughter. Combining several aggravating circumstances (driving under drugs, but also hit and run), the driver faces the maximum penalty for this type of offense: 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of 150,000 euros.
He says he panicked before running away
From a source close to the case, during his hearing, the suspect recognized the facts, and notably admitted to having used cocaine.
Before investigators from the Muret gendarmerie company, this motorist claimed to have taken drugs the morning of the facts occurred in the evening, around 9 p.m. He said he did not see the scooter arriving opposite. As for his flight, he explained that he “got scared” and, in “the panic “, preferred to try to disappear into the wild.
Disappeared in Haute-Garonne, found in Ariège
This thirty-year-old was circulating at high speed, Friday evening, when he doubled a car who preceded him, whilea scooter was coming in front, at normal speed. Extremely violent, the shock was fatal for the teenager, alone on board his two-wheeler.
Instead of helping the victim he had just hit, the motorist accelerated. Actively sought, he was found and arrested by the gendarmes a few hours later, on the side of moat (Ariège), a thirty kilometers south of the scene of the tragedy.
Witness to the entire scene, the overtaken driver came to the aid of the teenager and called the emergency services, who, unfortunately, were unable to do anything to resuscitate him.
Three similar accidents in three weeks
History tragically repeats itself in Haute-Garonne. This is in fact the third time in three Fridays that a driver under the influence of cocaine has escaped unharmed from an accident in which he killed an innocent person on the department's roads.
A week earlier, Friday November 1, in Flourens, a 28 year old cyclist was fatally mowed down by a 39-year-old motorist who said he had been “dazzled by the sun” but who was mainly driving “on cocaine”, according to a source close to the investigation.
Another week ago, Friday October 25, it is a 12 year old boy who lost his life when the unlicensed car in which he was a passenger was hit head-on by a 35-year-old driver who had mixed up cocaine et alcohol.
Two scourges which, like Toulouse News detailed it a few days ago, are now neck and neck on our roads in fatal accidents.
