This Thursday, June 6, 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings. On this occasion, the prefecture of Finistère paid tribute to the women involved in the Resistance during the Second World War. “The objective here is to highlight the female figures, known or more confidential, who distinguished themselves 80 years ago through their courage and without whom the Liberation would not have been possible. »

Jeanne Callarec

The prefecture particularly remembers Jeanne Callarec, née Danielou. “This local child, born in Morlaix, was 55 years old when the occupation began. She joined the Resistance and provided civilian clothing and supplies to allied airmen housed in Brest. During the siege of the city, she was part of the passive defense as head nurse of a sector block. Throughout the war, it also housed 14 English and American airmen and, in May 1943, joined the Defense of France movement. For her clandestine action in favor of the Resistance, she obtained several distinctions such as that of officer of the Legion of Honor (1946). »
