The future Cherpines district will ultimately accommodate 3,700 housing units between Plan-les-Ouates and Confignon. The first part of the project is that of Rolliet and its 1,000 housing units planned for the end of 2026. A school is being built to accommodate children from the neighborhood. The first stone was laid this Monday.

A time capsule, as a first stone: this morning the Administrative Council of the commune of Plan-les-Ouates was responsible for sealing this object filled with the school project, the legislative plan, the speeches of the day and a text intended for future generations: “The objective is to find this text if the school is destroyed within 100 or 120 years” explains Mayor Xavier Magnin.

Margin for 2030

A necessary building for the 2,500 new residents to come: “There are 16 classes and 320 places planned. Normally we thought about the project to have margin with five or six classes still available in 2030” specifies the mayor. The construction site was delayed by a year in order to meet the housing construction schedule. Students should be able to return to school in September 2026.

Cloister-shaped school

The school will be built on three levels and will accommodate a multipurpose room, a gym, and a school restaurant, in the form of a cloister with the classes opening onto a courtyard in the center. The school will be heated with 100% renewable energy. The courtyard will be landscaped with already tall trees to protect from the coming heat. Vegetation very different from that on which the school was built: a field of cardoon leaves its place for new housing.
