In Labrador, two forest fires are approaching Churchill Falls.

Conditions in the Labrador region are currently very dry. Lightning caused four new fires Thursday evening.

The fire near Mount Hyde Lake is now only seven kilometers from a few hundred residents and two kilometers from a transmission line.

Friday, provincial authorities indicated that this blaze was located about twenty kilometers from the municipality of Churchill Falls.

According to the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture, the fire near the lake Twin is now about 30 kilometers away.

Four helicopters and 25 firefighters are fighting these two fires.

For the moment, there is no question of evacuations, but the authorities remain on the lookout.

Seven fires are raging today in Labrador. Three of them are controlled, while the others are considered to be uncontrolled.

In 2022, Newfoundland and Labrador declared a state of emergency due to devastating wildfires.
